Women’s Ashes 2025: England suffer defeat in final ODI match
England Women suffered a 86-run defeat to Australia in their third and final One Day International Ashes match in Hobart.
Ash Gardner hit her maiden international century while half-centuries from Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath saw their side post 308-8.
England started brightly, openers Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy both dismissed for 15 by Lauren Filer and Nat Sciver-Brunt respectively. Ellyse Perry was caught down the leg side for two and Annabel Sutherland fell shortly after for 10.
The hosts were 59-4 before Gardner, supported by Mooney (50), McGrath (55) and Georgia Wareham (38 from 12 balls) helped set England a target of 309.
Lauren Bell, Sciver-Brunt and Charlie Dean all ended the innings with two wickets apiece, with Sophie Ecclestone the other taker.
After losing opener Maia Bouchier early, the tourists regrouped and batted bravely. Sciver-Brunt top scored with 61, Tammy Beaumont hit a half century with Danni Wyatt-Hodge (35) and Amy Jones (30) contributing and maintaining an achievable run-rate.
England were in contention throughout the innings but the final six wickets fell for 22 runs which saw England finish on 222 all out.
The result means Australia lead the Ashes 6-0.
The teams fly to Sydney tomorrow before they begin their three-match IT20 series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday 20 January.
