Press release -

Specsavers County Championship – September 25-28

The final round of the season starts tomorrow (Monday), with Essex already crowned champions, but numerous other issues still at stake.

Four matches in Division One, in which Essex are aiming for a 10th win in 14 matches, Lancashire and Surrey are battling for runners-up spot at Emirates Old Trafford, and Somerset face the 2016 champions Middlesex in a relegation crunch in Taunton – where a Somerset win could also drag Hampshire into trouble.

Five matches in Division Two, with Worcestershire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire chasing the two promotion places.

In addition, this round will mark the final first-class appearances of such distinguished cricketers as Kumar Sangakkara (for Surrey at Lancashire), Chris Read (for Nottinghamshire at Sussex) and, if fit, Ryan Sidebottom (for Yorkshire at Essex).

Essex will be presented with the Specsavers County Championship at the end of their home game against Yorkshire.

The last Opta stats pack of the season is attached.
