Press release -
Smith five-for on debut backs up Jones and Beaumont tons in big England win
England Women 345-6 beat West Indies Women 237 by 108 runs
Five wickets on debut for Linsey Smith backed up centuries for Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones as England Women enjoyed a winning start to the Metro Bank One Day International series against West Indies at Derby.
Hampshire spinner Smith took 5-36 on her first appearance for England in the 50-over format, seven years after making her IT20 debut, and contributed to a bowling performance that saw West Indies dismissed for 237, 108 short of England's total.
Wicket-keeper Amy Jones - returned to the top of the order after a six-year hiatus - earlier brought up her maiden international hundred and ended on 122, a performance that earned her the Player of the Match award.
After the home side won the toss and chose to bat, Jones combined with Tammy Beaumont for an opening partnership of 222. Beaumont made 107, her 11th century for England Women in ODI cricket - two clear of her coach Charlotte Edwards and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt on nine centuries apiece.
England's victory takes them 1-0 up in the series with two matches to play, the teams reconvene at Leicester on Wednesday.
