ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Spinners star as England Women open with win over Bangladesh in Group B

England Women began their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a 21-run victory over Bangladesh in Sharjah.

Heather Knight's side recorded 118-7, with Bangladesh hitting 97-7 in response in another low scoring opening Women’s T20 World Cup contest in tricky conditions.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge top-scored with 41 for England.

Opener Maia Bouchier was caught at mid-off for 23 and Nat Sciver-Brunt was lbw for two. Five of the wickets fell to spin with Ritu Moni impressing, dismissing captain Knight.

England produced a fine bowling performance. Linsey Smith and Charlie Dean took two wickets each for England while Sobhana Mostary was the pick of the Bangladesh batters on 44. Sciver-Brunt and Sarah Glenn also took a wicket each.

England return to action on Monday, where they take on South Africa at the same venue.
