ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Sciver-Brunt's winning runs help England seal win over South Africa
England Women defeated South Africa in Sharjah to make it two wins from two in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Group B matches.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge's 43 and Nat Sciver-Brunt's unbeaten 48, a 64-run partnership, helped England reach their target of 125 with four balls to spare.
South Africa dominated the powerplay with Maia Bouchier dismissed early. Marizanne Kapp impressed, starting with a maiden over and recording figures of 1-5 after her first three overs. Alice Capsey’s well-executed 19 gave England much-needed momentum.
Captain Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and elected to bat, herself hitting 42 but player of the match Sophie Ecclestone recorded 2-15, the key wickets of Wolvaardt and Kapp, while fellow spinners Linsey Smith, Charlie Dean and Sarah Glenn claimed a wicket each.
Heather Knight's England return to action on Sunday (13 October) when they take on Scotland at the same venue.
Nat Sciver-Brunt's post-match media conference is available on the ICC Media Zone.
