Press release -
Ian Lovett elected as new ECB President
ECB today announced the appointment of Ian Lovett as its new President.
The former Middlesex Chairman and ECB Deputy Chairman will take up the role with immediate effect after his nomination was ratified by the 41 members of the ECB.
Ian will act as an ambassador for ECB and the wider game, promoting the organisation’s strategic aims to make cricket a sport for everyone.
He was elected via a thorough process in which potential candidates were put forward to the Nominations Committee by the 41 stakeholders of the ECB. The committee then made a recommendation to the Board ahead of the members vote. The President role is a non-executive position with a maximum term of three years.
Announcing the appointment, ECB Chairman Colin Graves said:
“Ian is a fantastic choice and we welcome him in to the role of President. He has a long-held love of the game and a deep knowledge of the value it brings to people, through being a player and volunteer at his local club and high-profile roles he has held at both Middlesex and ECB. Ian has also been a driving force in the governance changes that lead to greater diversity and better decision-making in the governing body.”
Speaking about his appointment, Ian Lovett said:
“I am hugely excited to be taking on this new role. I am passionate about our aims to grow the game and to do that we need to work collaboratively with everyone involved in the sport at all levels, particularly the army of volunteers upon whom we are so reliant. I will do all that I can to help with that.”
Ian Lovett served on the ECB board from 2009-2018 and was Deputy-Chairman of the ECB for three years before stepping down in May this year. During this time he oversaw the process of governance reform, resulting in unanimous approval for wide-ranging changes to ECB’s Articles of Association last December, including the composition of a fully independent Board of Directors. Prior to that he served as Middlesex CCC Chairman between 2007-2016.
Away from cricket, Ian has held a variety of senior roles in banking and finance.
