England Women record IT20 victory over India

England Women opened their IT20 series against India with a 38-run win at Wankhede Stadium.

India started brightly as Renuka Singh Thakur bowled Sophia Dunkley and Alice Capsey in successive balls in the first over.

England responded well with Danni Wyatt on her 150th IT20 cap and Nat Sciver-Brunt scoring 75 and 77 respectively to help their side record a total of 197-6.

In the second innings, the impressive Sciver-Brunt bowled Smriti Mandhana while Jemimah Rodrigues was caught behind off Freya Kemp.

Sophie Ecclestone made her eagerly awaited return to action and first appearance since August after shoulder surgery and took England’s third wicket bowling Harmanpreet Kaur before dismissing Shafali Verma and Kanika Ahuja.

Heather Knight’s outfit are next in action on Saturday 9 December where they take on India in second of three IT20 series matches at the same venue.
