England Women defeated in ODI series opener in South Africa

England Women suffered a six-wicket defeat in their first one day international against South Africa in Kimberley.

Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt’s unbeaten 59 from 114 balls helped her side reach their 187 target after 38 overs. Nadine de Klerk's 48 not out sealed the victory.

Lauren Bell, Charlie Dean, Lauren Filer and Nat Sciver-Brunt all took wickets.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat, England were 106-7 before number eight Charlie Dean’s 47 not out.

Sophia Dunkley was dismissed for four before Tammy Beaumont was bowled for 11 and Nat Sciver-Brunt was lbw for a duck.

Heather Knight's 40 steadied England before Dean and Sophie Ecclestone's combined 64.

The two teams are back in action for their second of three ODIs in Durban on Sunday 8 December.
