Press release -
England lose to Bangladesh on day two of the Vitality IT20 Physical Disability Tri-Series
England fell to defeat against a resurgent Bangladesh to leave their hopes of qualifying for the Vitality IT20 Physical Disability Tri-Series final in the balance.
Batting first in a crucial game, England got off to a good start thanks to cameos from Liam Thomas (28), Hugo Hammond (30), and Callum Flynn (23). From a position of strength at 78-2, England collapsed to finish on 125-9. The England total was boosted after Bangladesh conceded five penalty runs, meaning Bangladesh needed 131 to stay in the tournament.
Fred Bridges (2-22) picked up two wickets as he built the pressure on Bangladesh along with the economical Jordan Williams who bowled four overs for just 14 runs. At 62-5 it looked England’s game to win but a 58-run partnership between SM Shaharia Shamim (43) and captain Drupam Patranabish (43*) saw Bangladesh home in the 19th over.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan booked their place in the final with a comfortable 45 run win over Bangladesh. Wajid Alam made 74 as Pakistan posted 180-5. Bangladesh were bowled out for 135 in reply.
England must now beat Pakistan tomorrow in their final group game or get their net run rate above Bangladesh’s in order to qualify for the final.
