Press release -

Brunt's all-round efforts earn Team England's cricketers a second win

Team England 167-5 beat South Africa 141-4 by 26 runs

Katherine Brunt was the star of the day for Team England's cricketers as they beat South Africa by 26 runs at Edgbaston to move one step nearer to the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games.

Brunt made an unbeaten 38 with the bat and put on a record sixth-wicket partnership of 73 with local girl Amy Jones to guide her team to 167-5.

South Africa made a good start to the reply but struggled to keep up with the rising required run-rate and fell well short, with Brunt - economical as ever - taking the key wicket of South Africa's Chloe Tryon.

At the other end of her England career to 37-year-old Brunt, 17-year-old Alice Capsey enjoyed another fine day in the three lions of Team England, making her first international half-century, from just 36 balls.

Should New Zealand beat Sri Lanka in the day's second match, England will be guaranteed of a place in the semi-finals on Saturday. They return to Edgbaston for their final group game against the White Ferns on Thursday, at 6pm.
