Beaumont steers England Women to ODI series win over South Africa

England Women recorded a six-wicket victory over South Africa in a rain-affected encounter to seal a 2-1 one day international series win in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.

Set a revised target of 152 in 23 overs, opener Tammy Beaumont’s 65 from 46 balls and a sublime fifth-wicket stand of 90 with Amy Jones sealed the win after the tourists had slipped to 25-3 with Proteas all-rounder Marizanne Kapp dismissing Maia Bouchier, Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Heather Knight.

England won the toss and elected to bowl. South Africa recorded 233 in their innings before a lengthy delay due to rain and lightning.

Kate Cross was withdrawn after suffering a back spasm in the first over.

Alice Capsey, Charlie Dean and Sophie Ecclestone all took two wickets while Lauren Bell dismissed Lara Goodall.

Captain Laura Woolvaardt top scored with 61 off 68 for South Africa while Marizanne Kapp’s 38 was a notable contribution as England restricted the hosts to 233-8 inside 50 overs.

England's tour concludes with a four-day Test match which starts on Sunday (15 December) in Bloemfontein.
