Amy Jones stars as England Women beat Pakistan in Vitality IT20 series opener
England Women beat Pakistan by 53 runs in their Vitality IT20 opener in front of a 12,241 strong crowd at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
On her 100th IT20 cap, Amy Jones was named player of the match, leading a fightback after England slipped to 11-4 and adding four catches to her decisive runs, the pick of the lot diving to her left to snatch the edge of Gull Feroza.
Skipper Heather Knight and Jones scored 49 and 37 respectively before Danielle Gibson’s 41 not out boosted the hosts’ total meaning England ended on 163-6.
Pakistan began their batting innings brightly finishing the powerplay on 57-2 before spinners Sarah Glenn (4-12), Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean (a wicket apiece) showed their class.
Lauren Bell’s three wickets were also a major contribution as the tourists finished on 110 all out.
